Meet Mandie

I decided to learn to knit in 2009 after proudly posting on Facebook that I was going to figure it out, even though I didn’t even know the difference between knitting and crochet. I walked into my local yarn shop, Heavenly Yarns in Belfast, Maine, and Helen and Liz helped me every step of the way. I bought the book Stitch ’n Bitch, watched countless YouTube videos, and before long I was completely enamored with this craft. You mean I could make clothes out of string!?!

Knitting quiets my mind. I knit through my kids’ sports events and music practices, during travel, and anywhere I can find a few quiet minutes. If I need to work out something hard in my brain, I give the anxious, busy side of my brain a pattern to follow, so I can think and process. I love colorwork and Fair Isle, and I am always up for a challenge. I am what knitters call a monogamous knitter, meaning I usually work on one project at a time, and I keep virtually no yarn stash.

Everything I knit for my family is an “I love you” in every stitch. Knitting connects me to the people I care about and to every community I visit. Before opening Wicked Good Wool, I traveled quite often for work, and I always make time to stop by the local yarn shop wherever I am. It reminds me that knitters and crocheters speak the same language everywhere.

That same feeling of belonging and joy is what I hope everyone finds when they walk into Wicked Good Wool.
